Melody Gardot

MELODY GARDOT:
I absoultely adore myspace.com. Pourquoi? On account of the way it lets you stumble on wee folks like Melody Gardot. This Girl.....whew...when I heard her for the first time I just was blown away...actually it inspired me to create a music Blog while sittin here in my flat...simply because I think people need to hear good music....and also because Im hoping I can find more to write about!

Here is a photo of Ms Gardot. (left--taken from www.myspace.com/melody)

She is 21, absolutely GOREgous in every sense of the word. Physically, spiritually, and musically she radiates. Her music is a combination of jazz and blues that reminds me of a grittier Norah Jones with a soul like Janis Joplin. She has a very dark and refined quality to her voice with songs that nearly break my heart. I havent seen alot of her online, but I know it cant be long until the world embraces her. Shes special.

Whats more is shes a fighter. She at 19, was hit by a Jeep and left disabled. She is still stunning, but now has to deal with pain on a daily basis as well as walk with a cane. SHe relies on devices that send electric signals through her body to keep her pain down, as well as a machine that helps to increase a wave formation in her brain. To me, she's a hero. I'm blown away by her, because I cannot believe what she did. While she was recovering from this accident, stuck in bed unable to walk, she recorded some music. From what I understand she never expected to do anything with it, but her doctors told her that the music would help repair alot of the other injuries she had including a brain injury that ruined her short term memory.

A local radio station got ahold of the CD, and one thing led to another. She now has a 7 song EP available that was released in May 2005. Apparently, she just burned CDs at home, and threw on a sticky label. Its the most charming story I have heard in a while.....

Because Melody is disabled she doesnt do alot of shows, but she has posted a few tracks online that are live. One is a song called "Wicked Ride" that I find absolutely amazing. Her vocals are so pure and so powerful....when she wails in the middle of the song I get chills. You can hear the pain and suffering in her voice, which is a REAL quality you cant fake.
Its so natural and yet so smooth , I cant help but think GOD just spared her life in this horrific accident so that she could bring a little light into the music and human world we live in.
